China Long Drive Championship 2021 is a unique annual event that consists of 4 phases, each divided into 4 rounds. The finals of every phase were scheduled to be held in 4 different Chinese cities, but our common foe COVID, had other plans. Just a few days after the first event in Shenzhen on May 18, 2021, the city went into shutdown. This has unfortunately had a huge impact on dates, venues and schedule of the Championship. Even though the Championship had to be scaled down, it will undoubtedly be one-of-a-kind event for those wanting to be a part of something exciting.
If you plan on watching the live stream, here’s the basic explanation: The rules are pretty simple and straight forward. There are four categories – Men’s open division, Women’s division, Masters division(45+), Youth division(U16). 32 players were divided into 2 groups and had to hit 6 balls in 150 seconds. The winning 8 from each group were then split into groups of 8 with the best 4 from each group advancing to the next stage. The top 8 players will have a chance to win the title in the finals.
The organizer of the Championship have a full set of COVID-19 safety measures planned to minimize the risk of infection. All players will be required to show proof of negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours prior to the day of the event. They will also need to take another test 48 hours after returning to their respective cities. Although there could still be disruptions between today and the finals, we are hopeful that the event will kick off as planned.
